Grayish baywing(Agelaioides badius), also known as cow bird with bay wings, is a bird species in the family Icteridae. It is currently being placed in the genus Agelaioidesbut has traditionally been placed in the genus Molothrus... It is found in the northern half of Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay and southern and central Brazil, an isolated population in northeastern Brazil is usually now considered a separate species. pale oxbird or pale baywing (Agelaioides fringillarius)... The greyish baywing has been registered as a vagrant in Chile.
Description and behavior
it has a total length of approx. 18 cm (7 in). It is generally ash brown with a contrast of black lore and ginger wings. Taxon fringillarius has more black in the face and more reddish (less ashy) full.
It is social and usually seen in small groups. Unlike "true" oxbirds in the genus MolothrusThis species is not a brood parasite. In contrast, the screaming oxbird is a parasite of the brood of the bay-winged oxbird, and while the adult screaming oxbirds are plump blackish, juvenile screaming oxbirds closely resemble bay-winged oxbirds.
Habitat and status
It is found in a wide range of semi-open habitats, including scrub and light woodland. It is usually quite common, and hence considered to be of least interest to BirdLife International and IUCN.
