STRIPED ANT (Thamnophilus doliatus)

Shrike anttrap inhabits dry wastelands and savanna shrubs, and also nests in bamboo thickets. This is one of the few ant traps that can be seen near human settlements. At the beginning of the breeding season (and it continues for the species as a whole almost all year), the male and female in a rhythmic duet publish a semblance of a song, bristling the feathers of the crest and wagging their tail. The nest is an open basket of dry grass - they are placed in a fork in a bush at a low height above the ground. Both future parents build it. In clutch there are 2-3 whitish eggs with indistinct purple spots and streaks.
